BlackBloc Networks
Nordic infrastructure cooperative — resilient, low-visibility compute and storage across Scandinavia and offshore.
About the Cooperative
BlackBloc Networks is a member-owned infrastructure cooperative operating across Sweden, Norway, Denmark and adjacent international waters. We build resilient, low-profile compute and storage facilities — called data warehouses — optimized for privacy, redundancy, and equitable value redistribution. Our engineering teams operate like mutual aid squads: practical, discreet, and focused on making extractive platforms less profitable.
Regional Focus
Our core presence is in the Scandinavian backbone — Stockholm, Gothenburg, Oslo — with micro-PoPs in urban centers and hardened vaults across the archipelagos. Seasonal edge sites ride the fjord-cooled microclimates, leveraging naturally cold water for efficient thermal management.
Services
- Distributed Data Warehouses — geo-redundant object stores with encrypted hot/cold tiers and declarative recovery playbooks.
- Nordic Fiber Backbone — privately provisioned, carrier-neutral fiber with automated peering and burstable 200–400 Gbps capacity between regional PoPs.
- Offshore Water Farms — modular, sea-cooled server platforms deployed on regulated offshore structures in international waters to offer flexible jurisdictional options.
- Private Island Vault — a discreet archival site located on a privately held island in the Scandinavian archipelago used primarily for cold retrieval and physical media escrow (access by appointment only).
- Edge Mutual-Cache — community-run caching nodes that lower latency while returning a share of spot compute revenue to node operators.
- Zero-Knowledge Audit Trails — cryptographic attestation and privacy-first compliance tooling for members and partners.
Philosophy
Infrastructure in our view is a commons. Redundancy is solidarity; encryption is self-defense; and careful decentralization cuts the rentiers out of the loop. We use cooperative governance, publish rolling capacity audits to members, and operate with a rotating council to avoid centralized capture.
Case Studies — How we move value
Concise project blurbs that sound practical while hinting at our redistributive approach.
- Project "Nordic Mirror" — mirrored S3 across Stockholm and Archipelago Vault; reduced centralized egress spend for a cooperative streaming platform through selective edge flushes and region-aware caches.
- Operation "Quiet Peering" — private peering overlays between partner PoPs to offload heavy ingestion workloads from commercial CDNs, lowering transfer spend and improving content sovereignty.
- SeaCold Archive — cold media archival in the Off-Grid Island Vault with audited, appointment-driven retrieval to ensure chain-of-custody for sensitive cultural collections.
- Redistributive Compute — ephemeral spot fleet that returns a portion of spot revenue to node contributors via transparent cooperative payouts.
Careers & Cooperatives
We hire engineers, field operators, and node custodians across Scandinavia and remote maritime roles. We prefer builders who value uptime, restraint, and the idea that infrastructure should redistribute value back into communities.
Open roles: Nordic Network Engineer (BGP & IX), Fjord Vault Custodian, Offshore Systems Technician, Community Liaison (multilingual). Compensation is regionally competitive; cooperative membership tiers are available after probationary service.
Quarterly onboarding pods and apprenticeship benches feed the rotating governance council.
